Overview of Synapse Health
Synapse Health is a benefits manager and has the exclusive statewide contract with United Healthcare to serve as the official primary provider of record for Alabama-based durable medical equipment.

ONeal Medical collects the prescriptions and supporting documents for each patient referral, sends those documents to Synapse.

Synapse

• confirms that the documentation meets United’s medical necessity requirements

• contacts each patient to collect copays

• then issues the PA for ONeal Medical - CPAP Plus to provide the equipment and supplies.

It’s extremely important for patients to expect, and answer, a phone call from Synapse to discuss their order.

If the patient does not communicate with Synapse, the order may be cancelled and the PA process must be repeated.

• Prior Authorization

  • Every order is screened for proper documentation to meet Medicare’s requirements.

  • ONeal Medical must wait for prior authorization directly from Synapse Health before providing equipment.
